IGNITE Job Shadow Program
IGNITE’s Job Shadow program allows students to spend the day with a mentor learning about their job by following the mentor around the office doing whatever they would do on a typical day. Sitting in on meetings and planning sessions, observing the interaction between the mentor and anyone they come in contact with, and seeing the latest technology and trends in the career are all part of a typical job shadow experience. This is a student’s chance to catch a glimpse of the job that they are considering and have any questions that they have about their career choice answered by someone who is actually doing it.
IGNITE provides a job shadow information form for students so they can know what to do at the job shadow and get the most out of the experience.
Students need to find a mentor through our Professional Members program on our website and then contact them to make arrangements. Students fill out a job shadow form so mentors can know a bit about a student before she comes and does her job shadow. After the job shadow is over, we ask that students write a small paragraph telling us about their experience.

The Benefits of a Job Shadow
Students:

- Gives a view into all aspects involved in a job. Students can observe not only job characteristics and responsibilities, but also what each profession requires on a day-to-day basis
- Lets students learn first-hand what it takes to make it in their fields of interest from the people who know best—working professionals
