HI All,

We had a fantastic Job Shadow event set up for 22 girls on Monday. It was for girls from Ingraham and Hale HS. They all had an amazing day and learned so much. Of course now they all want to work at Microsoft!

I want to thank our wonderful Microsoft partner who set up the Job Shadow and took care of all the many details. Thank you to Renuka Iyer. She is so wonderful to work with and such a pleasure to get to know. I am so grateful to Renu for all the hard work or organizing the Job Shadow for us. She did such an outstanding job. I cannot say enough great things about Renu, and I hope we get to work together many times in the future.

I also want to thank the Women in IT group who supports the job shadow events. The women in IT are clearly committed to helping young women get such great opportunities. Thank you all.

I want to thank the women who volunteered that day to take a girl to work with them and share all about what they do. The girls all came back with the biggest smiles I have ever seen. They all learned so much and felt like the day had a huge impact on their understanding of what high tech jobs are like. All the girls were inspired about their futures.

Here's the comments from the girls evaluation sheets.

  • I learned a lot about technology and opened up more choices for me.
  • I liked seeing all the different kinds of products and software they plan on coming out with in the next year. That was exciting!
  • It was a wonderful day, it could not be better!
  • I learned so much about what I want to do in the future!
  • The thing that I loved about today was the video that I saw, which told me all about her job! I also learned important things about job interviews that can help me. I enjoyed it so much!
  • I love that Microsoft respect people's ideas and you can even create them in the future.
  • I liked connecting with my mentor and learning about her career. I also liked attending one of her meetings and seeing what they discuss. I would like to spend more time job shadowing.
  • I liked learning about all the different opportunities and getting to know what other women do. Microsoft is so flexible, you are likely to change careers and you can choose from so many things. More job shadows!
  • I liked the best was talking to my mentor and learning about her job and Microsoft.

  • I loved going to the meeting. I learned about technology available to Microsoft employees. That was great.
  • I liked knowing that anyone can pursue a career in any desired field. A job does not have to remain static and enjoying a career will ensure that one does well in the occupation.
  • Just talking to the women and learning more about their jobs and what they do was my favorite part.
  • I learned how many different things women all get to experience and how happy they were working here. I really liked this job shadow the way it was.
  • My mentor was so nice and sweet. WE had a lot in common and we shared funny stories. She answered all of my questions and I really enjoyed myself today.
  • The cart thing was really cool because I love hearing about the future. I liked how everybody is really close and plenty of opportunities.
  • I was excited to learn about technology in the future
  • I liked how I followed my job shadow and got to see exactly how her day works.
  • I learned a lot of code words and abbreviations and language I never knew.
  • I liked how Microsoft had many open opportunities for people that want to do something with Microsoft.
