HI All,
We had a fantastic Presentation event at Franklin HS! We had a really nice turnout and most of the girls had not been to the previous event in November, so we can get to know them too!! They really had great questions and I am sure we could have been talking for several hours, if we just had more time!
Thank you to our great presenters, Kathie Flood, Program Manager and Video Game Producer, Microsoft, and a big IGNITE welcome to Renata Konrad!! Renata is an Industrial Engineer. She has worked in many companies, and is now working on her Ph.D. She did her defending this week, so its been a big week! You both did such a great job in explaining what you do in high tech and engineering. I think the girls are getting a really good idea what engineers do and also what kinds of careers there are in high tech and engineering. I just wish we had more time!
Thank you to Barbara Lynch, Cisco Teacher, and teachers of many other things. Barbara supports IGNITE activities in a big way, we so appreciate everything she does!!
Here are the girl's comments from the survey forms.
- I liked how they brought a real person who is in the career and said everything they did and how they achieved it. The most interesting thing I learned was how jobs do random things. It takes a lot of thinking of how to do it and with data supplied.
- The best part is where they talked about their careers and how they got there. I heard things that I did not know. Like people in technology work at figuring things out, like Cosco cashiers and lines, it was interesting.
- The types of credit that is being used in order to track what you buy, that was interesting to hear about. I learned that you can apply the interests that you have to things in the real world.
- I learned about Industrial Engineers. Engineers work in all different places, warehouses, and grocery stores, that is new to me.
- I enjoyed learning about some different aspect of engineering and having the presenter act as more of a storyteller than a lecturer. I was interested in learning that engineering isn't limited to bridge building or train driving.
- The best part is seeing people who actually do the technical work. I learned what engineers do.
- I enjoyed the story about what kind of Industrial Engineer she is and how she got started. I learned that there are different types of engineers.
- I learned that it does in fact take some time to become a technical engineer. It's worth it because there is not many women, so its good for us.
- The best part is that the guest speakers tell us about there jobs and information. I loved all the info that the speakers were telling us. The event was good, it was perfect so you can't make it better.
- I thought it was really interesting to hear about the women's careers and what they actually do. I loved hearing about the video gaming stuff and who she gets to meet!@
- It was cool and interesting.
- I really enjoyed listening to the various types of engineering that is out there. The most interesting thing that I learned was that you can find a way for engineering to suit your needs.
- I liked how they explained what engineering was. I thought it was building trains or something. I loved learning about how many types of careers are in high tech and engineering.
Thank you all for making this possible.
