Hi All,
We had a great presentation yesterday at Rainier Beach High school. It was a wonderful turnout and the speakers were so outstanding.
Thank you to Michee Holland (Software Test Engineer - Microsoft), Linda Thomas (Safety Engineer - Boeing), and Nora Duffy (Program Manager - Avanade Corporation). You were all just exceptional speakers and really connected with the young women. After reading the evaluation forms we can see what this event meant to the girls, they really loved it.
Thank you so much to the incredible Career Center Specialist, Barbara Quintana, you do such a great job for IGNITE and we appreciate all you do !!
Here are the comments from the girls, they say it best !!
- I'd love to work in technology., I know now that there is a great chance for me to do it. I would also make enough money to manage my life.
- I liked how they told us how they got to where they are today. Hearing the stories was great. I thought it was interesting to learn that there is no math in accounting.
- I liked the presentations and how they told us about the different careers there were in technology. The most interesting thing I heard was about how Nora made her career.
- I loved the presentation.
- What I liked best about today was the stuff they talked to us about. It taught me a lot about technology careers.
- I learned that all kinds of degrees can get you into technology.
- I loved hearing the speakers life stories and how they made it where they are today.
- I loved hearing about their jobs, and all of them were interesting.
- Learning that being denied by a company like Microsoft is not the end and if you keep trying you can get the job.
- Nora's story was amazing and now she has a great job.
- I am looking forward to the field trip.
- What I learned today was that technical careers take work and they take time to become good, but its worth it.
- I learned that every job will have some form of technology in it and that I need to learn technology for the future.
- I liked that the women spoke educated. The women taught us about their fields and how they got there.
- I like hearing all about their life.
- I learned that technology will give you more places to get a well paying job. I also learned that you can work behind the scenes on many things.
- I liked that the speakers were the same race as me, and that I know what they were talking about. I want to go into Computer Engineering.
- I think you covered everything.
- I loved hearing how they got to where they are now.
- I liked how all the speakers talked about their life experiences.
- I thought it was cool.
- I liked hearing how much they enjoyed their jobs.
- I liked how the women did different things. I really liked hearing about how the women had to struggle in their lives and ended up in the right place.
- I liked how we learned about the different ways we have to make our dreams come true. It was nice to see that you don't have to be the smartest person to get things in life that you want.
- I learned that even though you might go through struggles you could still make it in life.
As I said, the girls say it best.
Thank you so much for a very special and wonderful experience for these young women!
Sincerely,
Cathi
