Administrators and Teachers inspire
Student Members to participate in the IGNITE Programs!
After speaking at an IGNITE Seattle Member School Presentation, one of the Teachers leaned over to a Professional Member and said:"Nothing like this was available when I was a young girl! How wonderful that IGNITE can offer these Student Members such great opportunities!".
Without the participation of the Member School Administrators and staff, this program would be very difficult to operate. After 10 years of growth, IGNITE has proven to make a significant difference in the number of girls and young women who complete technology classes. In the Seattle School District, IGNITE has been influential to increase female participation in technology, science and math curriculum. When IGNITE started 10 years ago in the Seattle School District, as few as 3 or 4 girls registered for technology classes. Today over over 50% of the classes are filled with girls and young women!
IGNITE Statistics
In just two years, the IGNITE Program increased female enrollment in the Cisco Networking Academies by 35-80% in targeted Seattle IGNITE Chapter Member High Schools. Later, in 2005-2006, 50% of the students completing MOUS Certification were female. During a recent summer, 66% of the high school student internship positions at Microsoft were filled by IGNITE Student Members.
